Savage

Savage

A Poem by E.J. Waling

Born
into the
jungle
are we.
Not, the
jungle of
old, but
a jungle
nonetheless.
Animal instincts
still prevails,
motivations
still primitive.
Driven as
before, none
diminished.
Civilization,
a new invention,
a new reality.
Yet the
jungle still
exists, still
prevails.
Conflict,
spinning conflict
within.
Wild vs
“civilized”.
Animal,
internal conflict.
Transition
between
states
of existence.
Ways of being.
Struggles,
the
animal struggles.
Sticky
past,
holding on.
Instincts run
deep, encoded,
programed on
our very
being. Our
soul.
Perilous journey
one from
the other.
Fingers crossed!
