Blank Slate

Blank Slate

A Poem by E.J. Waling

Blank slate.
When born,
born
as a
blank slate.
No preconceptions.
No ideas.
No ideas
on anything.
No political
leanings.
No religious
beliefs.
No ethnic
identity.
At birth
the mind’s
open for
business.
Then
it begins.
The
download.
Where
and when
born
determines
the download.
Determines
the material.
Leanings,
belief systems,
attitudes,
prejudices,
understandings
plowed in.
Layering in
personal
reality.
Laying the
foundation.
The foundation
then reflects
back to the
world.
Reflecting
back the
full scope
of human
limitations.
