Peaceful

Peaceful

A Poem by E.J. Waling

Peaceful.
Tune
out.
Turn
off.
Walk away.
Visit
serenity.
Walk
the
woods.
Kayak
the pond.
Enjoy
the ocean.
Leave
technology
behind.
Sounds
of silence.
Cleansing
the mind,
easing
the soul.
Scraping
off the
crud.
Cleaning
soiled
fragments
from
the being.
Calming the
din.
Smoothing
the frayed
edges of
this place.
This time.
Teasing
sanity back.
Back from
the abyss.
Back
to a
calmer
state.
Keep from
losing
stable
ground.
Shake out
the toxic.
Follow
the light,
the sounds.
Quiet
scenes.
Offset the
crazies.
Find
peaceful
places
to rest.

This is exactly the types of peaceful serenity we need to seek out in these times of over indulgence with our technology. Any time I'm out and about it never fails I see people's faces pressed intently into the screens of their smartphone. It is an addiction for most of them. Social media is a new drug that they can't get enough of. Because it offers the ability to make a common person a celebrity if their words or actions can manage to go viral. To be adorned by billions or even scorned can be enticing to someone who may not have a talent for anything really of value to a society. I would much rather live in a world that this poem aspires towards than this current state. Nice poem JP we both have something in common. We are dreamers at heart.

' 'Cleaning soiled - fragments - from - the being. - Calming the - din. - Smoothing - the frayed - edges of this place. - This time. '

Repeatedly reading that flow of words slowly and aloud, felt their music and a need to sway - like that baby in a tree top but, held fast and safe. Beautiful.. hypnotic..
