Bronze Age

Bronze Age

A Poem by E.J. Waling

Bronze Age.
They,
were once
here.
Where
we are
now.
Saw the
same moon.
Saw the
same stars.
How much
have we
changed?
How little
have we
changed?
Four thousand
years ago.
She lived
four thousand
years ago.
Basic
human needs.
The same.
The lady
had style.
She wanted
to be pretty.
She wanted
to be
loved.
Difficult
life.
Survival.
Arduous
existence.
Survive.
Lived to
thirty if
lucky.
Blink
of an
eye.

I enjoy the journey this poem takes the reader upon. The evolution of humanity and yet despite our change how much have we truly evolved? Yes technology has given us added benefits but as individual living breathing empathetic creatures have we really grown much? Back then they lived to exist for as long as possible in their short life expectancy. But now we rush faster towards our doom by the selfish petty indifference we have toward each other and the world we live in. Very thought provoking piece JP. I so love the spirit of this writing and message.

As late as 1900, life expectancy was only in the 40's. Bronze age life must have been unimaginably hard. On the other hand, they probably didn't worry too much about climate change.
