Empty2

A Poem by E.J. Waling

Empty
streets.
Empty
stores.
Empty
everything.
All things
delivered.
No need
to go out.
Paid to
stay home.
Seduced.
Immersion.
Immersed
in the
virtual.
Absorbed
In the
machine.
Designed.
Utopia,
no reason
to leave.
Anything
possible.
Everything
available.
Controlled,
seduced.
Reality
left behind.
Left
to the
nefarious.
Back away.
Away
from the
machines
before it’s
too late.

This is a frightful piece and probably more true than some may want to believe. At the height of the pandemic our connection through social media ramped up a thousand fold I have no doubt about that. It allowed for disinformation to permeate and fester within our communities and in essence added to the widening of divisions we are experiencing now. I highly doubt we would be this divisive if the internet hadn't existed during this time of pestilence. The news media would still exist but not be as potent a force. Social media has become the top proliferator and source of vital information including news. It is a major bane upon our society. Excellent poem JP. One that should leave many of us thinking of our future existence if we don't gain a handle on this technology.

This reminds me how it was at the height of lockdown. Everything was empty and we were confined to home. Pleased that things are gradually getting back to a more normal situation. Less machines and more outdoors.
