Two Trillion

Two Trillion

A Poem by E.J. Waling

Two
trillion.
Four hundred
years back.
Earth was
thought
to be
the center
of the
universe.
One hundred
years back.
Some thought
the Milky Way,
one galaxy
was the
extent of
the universe.
Now.
Science
estimates.
Two trillion
galaxies.
Two hundred
billion trillion
stars.
Seven hundred
quintillion
planets
in the
observable
universe.
Potentially
many
trillion,
billion trillion,
quintillion
beyond
observable.
Conjecture,
potentially
infinite
universes
abound
in a
Superverse.
What’s the
point of
all this?
In a few
years, how
will A.I.
render
all this
quaint,
obsolete?
Humanity
can’t
fathom.
Imagination
run amok.
Entering
the twilight
zone.
