The Game

The Game

A Poem by E.J. Waling

The game.
Youth,
unfamiliar.
Unfamiliar
with the
rules.
Rules
of the
game.
No book
to read.
Explain.
Trial/
error.
Mistakes
along
the way.
Face
value
acceptance.
Complexity
unaware.
Stumbles.
Bruises.
Scars.
Scares.
Inside and
out.
Long
road
rocky.
Bends,
switchbacks.
Roadblocks.
Deception.
Lies.
Charlatans
along
the way.
Long
way
seasoned.
Songs of
Sirens
misleading.
Hard lessons
learned.
Time
created.
Clear eyed
realist.
Studies
never ending.
Much to
know.
learned.
Laidback.
Distance
kept.
Trust.
Abandoned.
Reality,
never
what it
seemed.
