Nothing to cure

Nothing to cure

A Poem by Sapphus

They ask me why I don't react these days
I say I'm an old man now
Hell doesn't burn me anymore
Nor does rain cool me
Blood was blood when it was red
Now lead fills my veins and my marrow is blue
So don't tell me to wage a war
I've no causes left to cure
Neither will I rage now
I'm now a pink and white soft cake.
My time was long over and I'm squatting
on all things borrowed
Soon could be evicted.

Methinks thou dost protest too much!
Are you, the author, hiding a fire you don't want to exert the strength to unleash?
You express refusal to effort although a tiger roars from your excuses; "So don't tell me to wage a war"...
You write. Your passion bleeds through, love.
A lovely poem, temporary in its smoldering... I feel sparks hitting me like I'm holding a lighted fuse.

@Sapphus, Words, darling, they are safe and effortless. But I understand.
This is a **bone-tired, world-weary confession** from someone who has outlived their own fire. The speaker isn’t just old—they’re **emptied of reaction**, a former warrior now reduced to a **"pink and white soft cake"**, crumbling quietly on borrowed ground.

I will definitely ☺
This is a most honest viewpoint on the subject of aging. Realising that youth has passed and the end is closer than the beginning is a sobering understanding. I think we shall all reach this point of life and how we react to it will have a strong impact on how the last of our lives unfold. While there is still breath, there is still life and more worth fighting for.

A very solemn poem, Sapphus. ❤️

Thank you Marina.
even though i'm just thirty-four, i feel like i'm in my twilight years. i stopped getting caught up in all the drama in the world and just try to live peacefully day to day. some might call this zen. and i'm glad you feel the same joy i do. the world is not perfect, it never was. yet we can take care of the world inside to make it a happy place.

Real age doesn’t matter if you feel grey. Thank you.
Aging brings sadness and think the way you feel disconnected is natural the death of self becomes the big fear. Well done.

I fear death like all. Thank you.
"I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now"---Dylan

My only war now is against aging...and as the other Dylan...."do not go gentle into the good night"
