Broken Pieces

Please excuse how the rhyme jumps around. This was written from the heart during a hard part in my life

I thought that I was broken

Something to be tossed aside.

A puzzle without the pieces but a picture,

Held inside.

I had forgotten what a laugh was

A chuckle or a smile

But meeting you,…it made me realize I was something worthwhile

I might still be a little broken

For some of my pieces are lost

But because of the kindness you’ve shown me

Those pieces will never be forgot.

Joyful sorrow on our meeting

For  I knew it wouldn’t last

But even though a short time

Was all that had come to pass

I felt like I belonged there

Safe, loved…warm

And a tearful parting because I miss the strength of your arms

My body might be here with me,

My soul, and my mind

But I left something with you

That, over time I thought had left me

My heart, please be gentle with it

For it is all I have to give.

It beats for you,

My love.
