"Strawberry Icecream..."

"Strawberry Icecream..."

A Poem by Chris
"

A momentary state of mind.

"
"Strawberry Icecream..."

Life as we live it IS seldom as we want it.
Things BITE
and the hurt IS intense and often
way beyond what a bystander may perceive or imagine.

And it doesn't matter where you are -
not really,
just WHERE your head ...or mind...
is at that exact moment
...ya been right there yourself -
so ya know what I'm tryig so poorly to say.

You're like me,
ya get sooo very lost in the event
that ya KNOW -
even GOD can't find you...
but He can ...He can.

I was sittin' on the edge of the hospital bed,
shoulders slumped, head low, body just -
well, you know don'tcha?
Black is a palpable color at times.

A voice came from behind and
an arm reached over my shoulder...
"It's Icecream... ya need this. Here."
Chuckling here - came with a spoon too!
Strawberry...I always hated Strawberry.
The tear that slowly found its way down
to my chin... proved I had never hated Strawberry
afterall.

Some things and some people are timeless moments
lost on purpose to find ...others...
when their world is shaken - ya know?

Sounds like "Tonsils out!" What I really like is the absence of adjectives and adverbs. too many poets think they are the key... and the part of my life that matters are all the timeless moments strung like pearls on a necklace.

Any small act of kindness can make a huge impact. I always try to be kind. You never know what someone is going through and what one small act of kindness can do. This was nicely written!

A small measure of kindness can really touch the heart. We are affected in the most unexpected way, and the only recourse is tears. It's in the hardest of times that we are often softest. I like this.

Good "seeing" you again. Thanks for pausing.
yes .. i do know, Chris .. and the moment is such a simple act of caring at a time one isn't looking at anything but shock and pain ... love the turn to concrete events in V4 .. not counting your opening line .. i love this .. it takes me back a ways at a very difficult time in a hospital .. "ya know"

too many times the case sir
Things do bite, and the strawberry ice cream provided you something delicious to bite back. Not only was the taste refreshing and distracting, but that reversal of subject and object, you being bitten by the world to biting the ice cream, provided you with a little bit of comfort and control in that moment. And those moments also provided paradigm shifts for us, when our beliefs and perceptions can flip on a dime for no explainable reason, like how you changed your mind about hating strawberry. It is simultaneously humbling and exhilarating how we have so much control over our own thoughts and feelings if we really practice and work harmoniously with them in a goal oriented way, and yet so little control over our surroundings at times. Btw, your writing style is effortlessly readable and disarming, I really appreciate reading it

I felt the darkness here of impending tragedy, and sometimes in such moments the strangest and most unlikely things can give us a tiny boost to our spirit and make us feel human again for a moment through our numbing pain. Like you, I don't like strawberry ice cream, either, but if it salves the soul for even a moment, then I think we should lick away. Sad and hopeful in equal measure, this poem, Chris.
