Confidence

Confidence

A Poem by Andrew Rayne
"

Confidence in yourself above all else.

"
It's very important that you believe.
Sometimes you can give everything you have at something,
and still fail.
Sometimes you fall and it takes longer than you realize
to get up,
to try again,
to grit your teeth and say I will begin again.
That this time I will not make the same mistakes.
I do not know how much it will take,
I have not the slightest idea how much pain I will endure,
but I will.
Believe.
In more things than you can imagine possible.
If you wish to sing you must first learn how to break your voice,
guitarists must carve callouses into their fingers,
tearing into weaker muscle to build strength;
Most people don't know you have to learn how to crash before you can fly.
More importantly people forget whats important.
You must believe in yourself.
Believe so much that you will be that you will never think of leaving,
never think of giving up,
giving in,
if you get knocked to your knees
you stand again and tell the world:
I believe.
I believe so much that I stopped thinking of ways to fail.
I know I can fail,
I know I'm not where I want to be.
I used to think everyday was another way for people to mock me,
criticize me,
tell me I'm no good and draw the line for me.
So I breathe in and show them,
there's a hundred lines behind me.
Each one I've crossed to prove my dream is worth believing,
and you too are worth believing.
This poem is for you,
for me,
and its true that people will always forget the great you do.
Quick to remember the mistakes,
and chain you to them.
Chains and pain framed in pictures of everything you were yesterday.
Photographs like mug shots of everyone playing devils advocate for you.
Believe in everything you told yourself in the beginning.
When we were kids and no one said the magic wasn't real,
that the stories weren't true,
and that everyone could be a superhero.
If they did then,
let me tell you that you look a lot like Clark Kent or Diana Prince.
More importantly,
you look a lot like you.
