A Halo Doesn't Erase the DirtA Story by Annam M GordonA liar is still a liar, even after they start speaking softly and acting honest. A cheater is still a cheater, just as a thief is always a thief, even if they suddenly show up behaving polite, pure, and clean handed. People like that are often skilled at changing how they present themselves, but not who they truly are. One day they deceive you, then the next they act like a saint, as if a calm voice and a clean image can erase what they did. It does not work like that. Someone who broke trust does not get to decide when the past disappears. They may pretend to be wiser now, but none of that erases the choices they made or the pain they caused. Real change is not a performance. Someone who truly regrets their actions does not act good for an audience. If someone only became kind and thoughtful after being caught, that is not change, that is damage control. A liar can memorize honesty. A cheater can rehearse loyalty. A thief can dress like a giver. But no matter how holy they act now, the stain of who they were does not just fade away. Dirt like that does not wash off. It only hides until it rains. © 2026 Annam M Gordon |
