(*speak*)

A Poem by Annebelle Ashire

she draws black lines over her mouth
a symbol that she'll never tell
stares at herself and then south
no one will ever know of her hell

they all talk behind her back
but she doesn't say a word
when the chanting begins
the harsh comments cease to lack
Beyond everything she's heard

I know exactly how she feels
because I was her not too long ago
skipping everyday meals
just because she didn't want anyone to know

Flashbacks continually hit
some jackass thought he was cool
romantic, sure, when she was intoxicated and the rain hit
he made her just another fool

She can't control the memories replaying
time and time again
or the thought that she's displaying
another smile so quite pretend

No one will ever know
because she's too scared to let them see
from her past she will never grow
never grow to be

To be something she could have been
anything
goosebumps cover her skin
just thinking about this never ending ring

Surprised that anyone could possibly care
or notice the things she does
like
brushing her hair
or anything else that
ever was

She hates the snow;
it begins too late
and leaves too quickly as you know
seasons:
just another dictate

They took her life away
she's living but never breathing
they all say she'll be okay
but they'll never know what she's feeling

Because
nothing exists anymore
nor did it ever
before
