Failure

Failure

A Poem by Annebelle Ashire

They called you a failure
you felt all sense of hope fall away,

here

no one can judge you,
or at least that's what you tell yourself.
you're by yourself, all the lights are off
all but that open window a little to your left.
It's a temporary fix for a permanent effect.
at the moment you have no self-respect.

this is your forbidden fruit
poison in your possession.
you tell yourself you shouldn't
but over-ruling that is your obsession.

they called you a failure
"you'll never make it through"
they say.
they called you a failure
you can't REALLY be okay.

Venomous bottles never looked so good
Took away your pain like you knew they would.
this is your forbidden fruit
this is your obsession
so they said you wouldn't make it

I'd like to say they were wrong.
But I can't.
so to you I sing this song.

they called you a failure,
so you watched as hope walked away.
you let it kill you
slowly but surely,
you never really made it through.
