To My Soldier [#1]

merely one of many to come

I'm supposed to write a poem today,
about the love letters I'll be sending to you.
About how long you'll be away,
and just how we'll make this through.

So don't mind my rambling through this page,
as I try to find the words that fit.
Understanding that I'm off stage,
but that doesn't make it easy to admit.

I'm going to wonder every hour,
if you made it through the day.
I hope that you will overpower,
and finally find your way.

I'll pack up my love and seal it tight,
for the plane ride in the sky.
And when you land that following night,
I hope you open it and happily sigh.

Because I'll be waiting by the window,
Where we once sent each other kisses.
And when the wind whisks a blow,
I'll hear you whisper,
"I love you, Misses".

I will write you every night -
and tell you about my day.
Ask you questions you can't answer outright -
But wonder either way.

I will miss you all the time,
and beg for your return.
But this is your sublime,
and so, from you, I plan to learn.
