The love they lack

The love they lack

A Poem by Anusha Prabhu

There are times, when I abhor myself

When in ignominy with fortune and populace

And I scream for help,

To numb ears and the deaf heaven

And I look at myself, in the kaput reflect

I curse my fate!

For then, I look around

There’s a horde,

Of people with healthier destiny, riches and verve

And then I covet

I go green, for her looks and his prosperity

Yet, somewhere amid these thoughts,

There is you

Your chaste, unsullied subsistence

Like the sun at dawn, it brings me a smile

And I look around… again

There’s a horde

Of people with healthier destiny, riches and verve,

But suddenly the hatred is gone

Suddenly, I pity them

For the love they lack!

For then, I feel rich

And deny having my life, exchanged

To the richest of the queens
