The BeastA Poem by Lauren Applegrove
There is something in my soul,
that I try best to hide. It hides in my mind's basement, with iron chains that bind. It stares at me with hungry eyes, and gets bigger every day. My chains of will must hold it tighter, it must not get away. It bares sharp teeth, and long claws, and holds a twisted mind. The iron chains are never loose, or a way out, it will find. With chains of will, and lock of heart, and sorrow as the key. There would be a great disaster, if this thing was ever freed. I hear it whisper in my ear, it mutters, "let me out." "I can give you amazing power, just give me a shout." I want to make it go away, and walk off to the east. But here I am forever trapped, forced to contain the beast.
