Carpe Diem

Afraid of being wounded?
And therefore scared to try?
You're like a fledgling eagle
who doesn't want to fly.

If life was always easy,
who'd feel the urge to live?
If everything was given,
what would there be to give? 

You have to walk in shadow
to know the thrill of light.
The dawn would have no meaning, 
without the depth of night.

The gods gave wine to mortals,
but wisely added dregs.    
You'll never make that omelette
unless you break those eggs.

A ship that never foundered
is a ship that never sailed,
so smile because it happened,
don't frown because it failed.

The thorn protects the rosebud,
the peach forgives the knife,
and when young babies whimper,
they fill their lungs with Life.            

You fear that you may suffer?
No matter - roll the dice!
For the sunshine of adventure,
is pain so great a price?

This is brilliant! You took a really standard message about not being afraid to try, and came up with really creative and original ways to say it! I love the omelette and breaking the egg, and I love the baby's cry filling it's lungs with life. This is really creative and well written. Thanks for sharing!

This made my day! Poetry, ironically, is my major distraction....I wake up each day, with verbs and nouns fighting their way onto snippets of paper, or Starbucks serviettes.....LOL.....the last line got me off my latest poetic rabbit trial and back to work! Pain is not too great a price to pay, so I will postpone my poetic randomness for morning tea! :D
