Death

Death

A Poem by Ariel Olivia
"

Death of a friend. Mostly dreamt the rest.

"

I heard screaming

I couldn't seem to see

The grass was breaking beneath their feet

I could hear them wrestle him to the ground

One last violent scream

His tiny body was broke in the center

His body... was stiff -- rigormortis

Lifelessly cold; pale

I had failed

There was nothing I could have done

I was speechless as I picked him up

His muscles creaked & bodily gas' leaked out

Into the early morning air

His soul was taken

Blood covered gloves; I grabbed the gun

It was the last thing I could've done

I buried him deep in the Earth

I lay his body down on the dirt

While I shoveled centimeters, turning into inches

& His pale eyes were thoughtless

I wonder what he thought before it happened

About me? His mother?

The sense of direction home; he could not walk

Approximately two hours for him to die

& I was a few feet away, in the dark

I could have been there in two seconds

But it was so dark, I couldn't see

It felt like a dream, & I couldn't speak.
