Mission Brief

And so, I am briefed on my latest mission...

Mission brief: Take flight at precisely 18:00 and head northward into enemy planes. You will have less than seven minutes in which to take out as many Missiles as possible. Afterwards you will return to your pods at our temporary base; any casualties in the plane will be abandoned.

Max Warewood; 24^th day of Autumn, 3050

 

The recorded message repeated itself for the third time in my Intelligence Unit; and then I knew that I was ready. My Body Clock had informed me that it was now approximately "17:16", meaning that we will soon take flight. At the moment we are all in a state of sleep, for our Intelligences are functioning yet are motor skills remain stationary.

Cool, iron claws hold onto us, firm yet delicate as to not damage our frail skeletal work. We were fast, we were dangerous; but we also shattered so very easily. All of us were aware that if we fall we malfunction, and then we shut down; as you humanoids may call it, “death”. There is no way for one of you to survive a fall of at least 35,000 ft and the same goes for us.

We are all placed in individual cylinders, which will slide open just as the hatch does. At that moment we shall all awaken and will then be sent on our mission. Seven minutes? Affirmative. I can take out Missiles in less than that without trouble.

Interesting beginning. The writing style reminds me of All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Which is a great book, by the way.

Max needs a rank to make it feel more military.

The next part is good, but you change tenses throughout. Pick a tense and stick with it when you rewrite this.

It is a little short for a prologue, but I think that is a good thing. It is intriguing enought to engage the reader and have them wanting more.

Might be a bit more effective if the identity (non-humanity) of the narrator is withheld till the next chapter.

Excellent write for quickly jotting down with little proof-reading. Great story idea. Love your military lingo in this one. Would make a great indroduction to a story. Minor mistakes, but you will catch them when editing, including last line. Great idea in quickly jotting down ideas from your head before they disappear forever---happens to me many times when I don't have a pen and paper available.
