Imagine

A Poem by Ashes
"

I won't lie, it's not a feel-good poem, but I believe the subject is important

"
Imagine a world
Where your race
Your sexuality
Your gender
Your religion
Or higher power
Or lack there of
Just didn't matter

Imagine if
Your social status
Your financial status
Your anything really
Didn't matter

How many times
Have you looked around
And judged somebody
By how they are dressed
How they look
Even what car they drive?

I know I've done it
And I'm not proud of it

Think about how you see
The homeless man
The millionaire
The celebrity

But that's not how it is
Is it?

We'd like to believe it is
That we don't judge
But that's not really the case

Imagine getting there though
Imagine there be no discrimination
No judgments on or of others
What would that look like?

Is it possible?
I'd like to believe it is
Or at least move more in that direction
Wouldn't you?

I can't imagine much of it
But I believe this world
Would be a better place
If it happened

What about you?

Author's Note

Ashes
I want you to honestly think about it.
Also eventually there will be a part 2 of sorts
Not sure when though

I think it's common sense that we all do it and that it would be better if we didn't. Life these days puts us all on a sliding scale... one's moral and ethical numbers will be someplace from far left to far right on the hateful and evil side towards the joyous and blessed side. I'd like to believe that most people probably are somewhere in the center + good side...

Good ink! The kind that makes one think! Thanks for sharing!

You're right, it is common sense. But I think it's something to strive for, to be better about it. I.. read more
