Judgement of Ourselves

Judgement of Ourselves

A Poem by ashleydawn

"Do you see that man,

the one behind bars

over there?"

"Why yes sweet child, I see him."

"He killed a man once

and is runnin' from the law.

Isn't that terrible?"

     "It is indeed."

"And her, to the left?

She sleeps with twenty men a week

Twenty! Can you imagine?"

    "Oh my, that's unbelievable."

"And that poor boy, bless his soul

He steals from each store

and lies to his mother

Constructing the story of "honest pay"."

"That's pure deciet, and so young. Shame."

     But you my dear

     Yes, you my child

     So beautiful, so perfect

Your status is so much higer

     than these!

     Their treacherous sins

Can't compare to your fine judgement

Superior knowledge and rightly gained wisdom

     Ah, my child, sweet child

     You are so much better

     than anything."

"Really? You think I'm

that great?"

That my faults are no where

near as deep as theirs?

     "Oh yes! Yes, my child

     you are of such

     higher elevation!"

"Oh, Satan. You devil.

Can't you see?

I am no different

From the prostitute,

the liar, the mudered?

A sin is a sin is a sin

and I am a selfish,

prideful, stubborn, greedy,

self-centered, narrow minded,

angry, less than pathetic believer

of my Jesus Christ

and I deserve to be cast

with the lot."
