Breathing Air

Breathing Air

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

Just a sad picture

"

Memories on crib mattresses,

a bouncing baby boy,

surrounded by stuffed animals

which brought so much joy,

her mind went off like fire alarms,

then a tiny body in the arms

of a grieving mother,

so much fear came near,

help wasn’t there,

she couldn’t understand

and there was no reason why

her baby had just stopped breathing air.

This is tragic and heartbreaking. Your description of the baby surrounded by stuffed animals really was a great use of imagery. A woman who loses a child never heals. Great work , you nailed it.

SIDS is a horrible thing for a mother.

Aptly done, my friend, on such a heartbreaking subject.
