Paramedics

Paramedics

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

what can they do with a body found stabbed to death?

"

Skin pale, eyes red,

a novice team of paramedics

have taken the dead

for a last ride to a nearby

emergency room,

there they will be told,

to stay out in the cold,

hospital policy,

to accept patients who are clinging to life,

there body stabbed to death with a kitchen knife,

the flustered paramedics accept defeat,

then decide to take the body back to the street.

Oh my! I did not see that last line coming! You always manage to paint a picture of what I'm reading, and I always feel like some kind of voyeur or watcher for this definitely is not sexual gratification but more of just a feeling of looking in while you describe the scene....GREAT JOB!

" there they will be told , to stay out in the cold, hospital policy". I imagine that being a paramedic you have to leave your emotional feelings behind a door because you see so much death and brutality. I've always wondered what it would be like to such a high stress job like a paramedic. I think this is one of my favorites , it has a effortless flow and a great tone. Keep it up.
