The Diary Of Princess Zyanya Moctezuma: Part OneA Story by Scarlett Grant-Smiththe diary of an aztec princess8th November 1519 Well if I intend to keep this diary I had better say something about my self first, my name is Zyanya Moctezuma, the 2nd daughter of Emperor Moctezuma II of the Aztec Empire. I have dark eyes, long black hair, and a slender figure, I'm also 15 years old. I'm currently in my bedroom in the Imperial Palace in Tenochtitlan. Today Father met a man called "Hernan Cortes". I went with him to see these "Spanish" people, me father and my 18 brothers and sisters went down, to see this along with two hundered other chieftains. Father gave Hernan a calender. But what really caught my eye was that Techichpotzin was gazing at Hernan, I hope she is not in love with him, but I must detest I saw a young man about 17 years old, gazing at me! well I must admit this man was quite attractive, he was tall, slender had brown hair and blue eyes, but unlike the others he did not have a metal stick in his hand he had paper and a pen, maybe he is a scribe?
11th November 1519 Father has let the Spanish stay in the palace, and the 17 year old man walked up to me today, he tried to converse but I could not understand him. After a while he held out his hand and nodded at me, I just held his and he smiled. He then pointed to himself then said "Silvestre Capetillo" then he pointed to me so I just said "Zyanya Moctezuma". He then just taught me a few simple words and sentences in Spanish, It was mainly just "Hello", "Good Bye","Thank You", "My Name is...", and "I'm ...years old". This man was trying to teach me Spanish and I thank him for that, but I have over-heard that father maybe losing his crown soon, I over heard Techichpozin, talking with Hernan Cortes, I have a feeling it may not be only talking they are doing...
16th November 1519 I have met again with Silvestre, he has told me that Hernan had melted the calendar father had gave him for it's value in gold and silver. Silvestre had teached me more Spanish so now I can speak small sentences with him in mostly ease. He has told me that the reason he is here is because he heard abot our civilization, and he did not want to fight but to look at it he liked the idea of finally going away from home, He also explained he had done some minor portraits of people and he wanted to do me! it would only be a small one though, we made a quick start today, it was just him doing the outlines today of me on my bed relaxing he picked up something called charcol and began, it was fun.
14th December 1519 Techichpozin is getting closer to Hernan I think she is always walking with him. She is also starting to worship someone called "God" it is part of the religion of the Spanish. Silvestre has taught me more Spanish so I can speak well now but he has not been around recently it is because he needs to write about the Empire in his book, so he can give it to the king of spain. A few of the lords have grown annoyed with spainsih miltary in the Palace. But Silvestre is different he is not in the Miltary he is just a Count's son, Silvestre had told me about his family and that he was an only child and his mother had died when he was younger, I then told him he hd no Idea what it is like to grow up with 18 brothers and sisters, he then laughed he says I often make him laugh, and that someday he would like to bring me back to Spain so I can meet everyone at the court!
26th December 1519 Yesterday, the Spanish did some celebrations, it was to do with there religion. It was the Birthday of their God's Son called "Jesus". But I saw Techichpozin with Hernan praying to this "God" and "Jesus". Also Silvestre was there as well he has also finished the drawing of me!, I have it in my Bedroom. Also I think I'm in love with Silvestre. I mean he is always so nice to me, he does'nt just eye me up like all the other Spanish Vistors. © 2009 Scarlett Grant-Smith |
