Stranger

Stranger

A Poem by Natalie Aidyn

Something about these moments to never be lived again stirs oceans within my head. I never notice how close to the end they are until I only have seconds to react. If only I’d spoken up and asked for just a little more time, maybe I would have gotten their email. Maybe I would have smiled a second more. Maybe I could have gotten lost in their stories. Maybe I would have caught their whole name and not just the fragment and frustration of their first. Maybe I wouldn’t be desperately searching for some way to find the strangers who never made it into anything but a regretful memory of me walking away.

--I still think about the stranger on the street
