Gelid Heart

Gelid Heart

A Poem by Ayanda Mteto

Emotion is strange

Like weather your feelings change

From a sunny day

To a shimmering winter cold

I was a fly caught in the web of a blackwidow

Murdered her husband

Tangled in lust of a venom love

Served with passion sweet as a morning kiss

But your lips tasted like Judas

How our loving compassion ended

Broken pieces of a lone heart

Stretched arms to receive nails

Pain of the love we once shared

Sweet memories are fading stars

In the rising Sun

Your tender embrace grapples like python vices

Suffocating breath I gave

Life I shared

Not knowing I was just a warm bed

To winter solstice
