The Silent Cry

The Silent Cry

A Poem by Ayesha Faiz
"

An emotional poem that reflects on the quiet struggles we hide behind smiles, the silent cries, unseen wounds, and the weight of unspoken pain carried through life.

"
"Silent Cry"

In the hush between the ticking clocks,
A cry unfolds, though no one talks.
No scream, no tear upon the face"
Just silence echoing through space.

It weeps beneath the evening skin,
Where battles rage but stay within.
A thousand storms behind the eyes,
A universe that softly dies.

They say, "Be strong, this too shall pass,"
But never ask about the cracks.
We’re taught to smile, to nod, obey,
And mourn our hearts the quiet way.

Not every wound draws crimson red,
Some simply throb in words unsaid.
A voice can break without a sound"
A soul can drown and never be found.

We carry grief like sacred dust,
Bury our dreams because we must.
But even silence has its art"
A quiet poem etched in heart.

So if you see someone too still,
Who laughs too quick, or hides the chill"
Know that their cry may fill the air,
In silence, pain lays bare and bare.

carrying silent pain and cries weighs you down, not for the faint hearted, it takes courage. this is an emotional write of cries that talks about pain and struggles with utmost honesty. you have a gift of words, and this a powerful poem, so well penned. thanks for sharing, Ayesha!
These lines stood out for me,
"A thousand storms behind the eyes,
A universe that softly dies.
....
Not every wound draws crimson red,
Some simply throb in words unsaid.
A voice can break without a sound
A soul can drown and never be found."

It’s so true—people don’t always scream when they’re in pain. Sometimes they just… go quiet. Smile more. Disappear a little.
This poem feels like it sees all of that. And it’s oddly comforting to be reminded that even silence has its own kind of language.
Thank you for writing this. It’s haunting and gentle at the same time.

evening skin - this caught my attention as I did not see that mix of metaphor usage before. Most of the times(not every time and not everyone) vulnerability is discouraged in society but all people who state such things never really give you tools to get out of it, thats the sad part. some cultures unfortunately prefer repetition for change over accepting. good work overall. thank you for sharing

A powerful poem about the nature of human existence......sometimes we all have to "hide the pain" and keep things within......

These are my favourite lines:

A thousand storms behind the eyes,
A universe that softly dies.

I guess that's why so many poems are written and songs composed ,.......an outlet to the "silent cry"

The source of the pain that is the subject of this one is not mentioned, but any deep loss or reverse could suffice. The key factor is that for one reason or another, the speaker says we feel unable to talk about it to another person. Some type of previous conditioning, whether familial or societal, has imbued us with the "stiff upper lip" philosophy. This is true for many people, but it can lead to lingering unhappiness. The poet has excellent observational skills.

Its sooo true!! The mourning of the heart is such a painful one and your poem capture that so vividly!! It reminded me of when I was going threw heartbreak. It wasn't an easy time and I couldn't share with anyone because they just didnt understand. Understanding one another is such a rare gift to have and to give when someone is in need. Thanks for creating such a captivating poem!!

yes, Not every wound draws crimson red...some wounds bleed invisible ink like a poem that is only imagined but never actually written. It is easy for others to tell us " this too shall pass" when they are on the outside looking in.

Many of us weep silently and hold our emotions... silence must be better than a scream, but not necessarily... I love the way you chose your words to convey your pain to us; "we carry grief like sacred dust"....."It weeps beneath the evening skin"..... so many excellent phrases..... Thank you for sharing
