Conflicting Stars

Conflicting Stars

A Poem by Azmurith

When I was just beginning to heal,
you came along.

I had found my star,
but yet here you were,
just as bright.

I thought to myself,
no matter, she does not notice me.
There is no reason to mind.

But then you did.
Subtle hints at first,
then more outspoken notes of affection.

I was afraid you would tempt me
and I would lose the star I had worked so hard for,
but then I noticed your true brightness.

Your light began to draw me in as a moth to a fire.
Just as I was about to lose myself,
the star I had worked so hard for reminded me,
she was still there.

I stepped away from you in an unkind manner
and held onto my star.

I had hurt you
but yet your light still shone for me.

Whereas my star got too hot
and I was forced away.

When in my time of need you showed up again
but this time someone else held your light.

Now I am standing in the shadows
with no one to help me.

Where is my light?
