What Are The Odds?

What Are The Odds?

A Poem by B-poet

Ten to one

One out of a hundred

What Are The Odds?

Towards defacing

Prejudge-mental forces

Occupying society's

Social prestigious levels

A measure of character

Dictated by the masses

Has gained some attention

From bet makers

Who want to defy all odds

By beating the overall point spread

Not by promoting sabotage

For making the probable inevitable

In order to answer this final fateful question

What Are The Odds?

Authentic relevance

Could be made plausible

Beyond a shadow of a doubt

During normal betting hours

Of every available gambling night

Very relevant subject matter...if I were a betting woman I would be asking myself "what are the odds?" As it is, I only ask this when something astronomical happens. But as always, very well penned.

Nice poem.

Very relevant, Bpoet. :)

They think they have it all worked out, which bets are the winners and which are the losers, but the laws of probability and actuality don't always win - human will and freedom of choice is often that which prevails! An interesting write. The bookies too often hide under the guise of a pizza shop type of mentality when there is enough opportunity for a winner to walk into the casino of life and place a huge pile on money and shout, "Destiny is the winner", and all the odds run and hide under the board of expectations!!

Judging a book by it's cover is a by product of what we are taught. And what we are taught is, what is most pleasing to the eye is generally the best.
Ie: you are going to pick up that polished, shiny apple and take a bite out of it, instead of the one with the wrinkled skin and the worm.
ie: You've got $500 to spend on a sofa... You can have this nice, black leather one here or that brown one with the huge stains, that looks like it's seen way to many frat parties over there.. You are leaving with the leather, right?

More often than not, it is a subconscious thing and automatic once older.
Perhaps if we were given lists when we are young of not quite so pretty things it is acceptable to choose.. We might be different. Don't see this happening though.

Good write!

Splendid read and write. Thoughts sinking to the depths of understanding. It's fascinating.
