It's nice to befriend

Nostalgia

Even after

Precious friendship memories

Are forever gone

In an instant

Like a shattered mirror

Cracked beyond recognition

Now a forgone conclusion

This strong friendly bond

Which once was

Sought out to be

Surely

Their candid presence & sociability

Throughout our entire lives

Was heaven sent

As a dearest kindred spirit

Until their untimely end

Actually had been

Seen & etched in stone

Within the valley of lost & departed souls

Explains a notion for why

It's hard to conceive or even pretend

Our cherished friend's epitaph had read

when we lose best friends it i usually because one of us undergoes some type of change which the other never gets told or understands. then there is death, or illness, or a transformation brought about by personal tragedy or issues. rather than summon that best friend and trust them with our issues we shut them out and both parties suffer...the bottom line is, best friend goes both ways or it no longer exists. excellent poem.
