Hating A Part Of Ourselves We Can't Live Without

Hating A Part Of Ourselves We Can't Live Without

A Poem by B-poet

It's that genetic tendency

We can't shake

Habits & mannerisms shape

A sure biological fate

Showcasing our height & weight

To fascinate the masses

For certain

We may not like

What we've inherited

When our parents started this trend

A distinctive hair color

Which attracts people to you

Those biological attitudes

Shown & Seen through a family name

Affiliated with a harsh temper

Existing within you

A blend of two bloodlines

From each parent's side

It's all about those facial features

Society loves to confide in

Like the size & shape

Of your eyes, nose & ears

You need them to live & survive

Amongst your peers

In a world of uncertainties

Confirming that fear, doubt & self loathing

Remain evident for proving

We're just Hating A Part Of Ourselves We Can't Live Without

You've done it again, turned a mundane topic into something beautiful. I can relate to this. I hear it all the time when people tell me I look like my mom. It's a fact I would love to deny. And yet the older I get the more I find I can't. I hate that part of myself and yet I can't live without those glimpses of her because I miss her.

They say you can't please everybody, but pleasing yourself is even harder within this context...loved this one, well done :)

To hate a part of ourselves is natural...there are always bits and pieces that we wish we could change, but if we were to change these bits and pieces, the whole would be changed as well and we would cease to exist as the people that we were meant to be. You have illuminated a thought provoking idea here, my friend. A very good write.

We are all created from two other human beings....and I believe everyone has at least one feature they would love to change. If a child is teased for having blue eyes, brown eyes, green eyes, there is usually a reason....and it has nothing to do with eye color. Usually it has more to do with jealousy. Maturity helps us realize that....but it is not easy to have good self esteem, that's for sure. I liked this one. Lydi**

In school, I was teased for having the features I have - made to hate the way I looked. It took years to realize that they teased me rather than face their own features they disliked... Well done, BP.

Sounds like me getting ready to go somewhere! Society makes us dislike stuff about us more. Great job:)

This is so true! We seem to do everything as if we're on stand by - if you get me....? We seem to do everything and strive to perfection, which is right but at the same time we can't be perfect at everything we do.

Awesome write.
