Inadequacy Is A Lasting Thorn In The Side Of Mankind

Inadequacy Is A Lasting Thorn In The Side Of Mankind

A Poem by B-poet

This epidemic

Has gone widespread

Like an epic motion picture

It's hard to figure

Why it needs to plague

You & I

Every single day, night & hour

Of our earthly time

It's a common dividing invisible force

Amongst those

Who're suffering

From grandiose non-exposure

It has a rare & significant name

Born under an alias

Called Inadequacy

A social apathy

Which keeps us from experiencing

A break in the monotony

Of our so-called charmed lives

It was called

Keeping up with the Jones'

Back in the day

Yet now it's about wetting

Your greedy taste-buds

Until the yearning

Towards social & economic acceptance

Befriends your intended personal normalcy

Seemingly revealing

Inadequacy Is A Lasting Thorn In The Side Of Mankind

Full of snarky truth, I quite like this read.... some really great lines.

Who're suffering
From grandiose non-exposure

Your title drew me in, and the content kept me wanting for more, good read!

For some, the feel inadequate no matter what they do; for others, they feel confident even when they fail. It is an important balance to strike, and not easy in this society. Good though-provoking piece.

yeah...we often find ourselves being inadequate in the eyes of others...or worrying about being that...when really it should only matter if we are comfortable in our own skin.

i think pryde has a point about a certain amount of material affluence...but for me...the mind ponders, and the pen moves more when i seem to be in jeopardy of financial survival...

it's an ironic world we live in, and write in.

Your poem got be thinking and I, respectively, offer a counterpoint.

Most wisdoms assert that materialism works against spiritualism. But I do believe this a false dichotomy. Certainly if your material well-being insists that others must suffer; well then, these wisdoms have a point. But the flip-side being that if one is struggling to survive how can we ask that they concentrate on anything but the material. It seems a certain amount of material affluence is essential for the mind to be free to ponder the metaphysical and philosophical.

But I would go so far as to assert one can have a thousand pair of shoes and even drive a fancy car and still be spiritual and/or ethical. (Neither of these things being true of me). I hold up individuals like Oprah Winfrey and JK Rowlings who possess tremendous wealth and yet still offer tremendous guidance to the rest of us. In short, they make a point of giving back. Material wealth can be a tool to enlightenment and not necessarily its enemy. The sin is not in the pursuit of material wealth; it is in the pursuit of material wealth at the expense of all else.

Maybe ... anyways your poem got be thinking.
