Winning The Illustrious Ambition Derby

Winning The Illustrious Ambition Derby

A Poem by B-poet

Galloping

Like a thoroughbred

With the wind

Behind its backbone

Nicknamed ambition

A proper distinction

For making strides

To acknowledge

The betting participants

Making it into

The grandstands while

Attending The Ambition Derby

My horse's name

Is Maintaining Meaningful Wishes

Was a decision

Favoring my odds to win

The coveted triple crown

Indeed I'll be the lone leader

Coming around that final turn

As if I'm breaking through

The victory tape

Then having a winning wreath

Placed around the neck

Of racing champion

Who's vowed to be

Forever remembered

After Winning The Illustrious Ambition Derby

i love the allusion to racehorses here; I think that perfectly describes human ambition and how we are always striving for the top. another great work :)

Love the Race analogy, especially your horse's name...

It is a race that will continue in our society...

I like the use of shorter lines to really push the poem forward. The last stanza punctuated the whole piece very nicely. I'd almost like to see more exploration in the middle of the piece, a brief glance at the backstory of the rider (or the horse), fleshing out the metaphor, but it's lovely as is.

A race that never ends, I'm afraid. Love the pace of this one. Well done.

in the last stanza did you mean "reef" or "wreath"?

this metaphor is well carried out through the entire poem...nicely composed...

love it.

but then i am really big into the triple crown...
