Why Be A Clown In Someone Else's Circus

Why Be A Clown In Someone Else's Circus

A Poem by B-poet

Why Be A Clown In Someone Else's Circus

When you can be one

In your own

Side show

Watch out

For those opportunistic

Trapeze artists

Waiting & Wanting

To forebode your talents

As their own

Since they're many

Ringmasters of merited misfortune

Lurking about

Under the big top

Of a frenzy carnival

Looking to recruit anyone

Who's gullible enough

For a chance

At being apart of

A marvel exhibition

Meant to exploit

The nature of our lives

As a once in a lifetime spectacle

Used to propel profitability

For a crazed circus business

That's seen by the audience

As the greatest show on planet earth

Every available night

Until the side show tour

Officially draws to a close

Really great idea and really great poem! Loved it! :)

The use of metaphor and language here is bloody brilliant.
I liked how you described different kinds of people as, 'trapeze artists' and 'ringmasters'.

Our lives are but a show, eh? Fantastic write and one of my new favourites!

I hear that imitation is the best form of flattery. I always hated that expression though. Really enjoyed this carnival ride of a write.

I love how you played with the words. :) I can relate to your poem. Why can't I be the clown of my own circus? :)

In Australia the date changes long before it does in places like the U.S. and U.K. For instance, I can write something and post it at the café on September 3rd whilst still being September 2nd in most other places.

If someone's got the inclination (and I've experienced this), they can take what ever they choose from my writing and post it as their own, on September 2nd... (my writing is crap. but dung beetles love it)

When that happens, it looks like I might be stealing from that beetle (I mean: person), rather than the other way around, since my post will inevitably present as being published a day later...

Why am I telling you this? Oh, I dunno.
One of your other reviewers thought your piece (this piece) spoke about plagiarism, and I think it does, too.

I guess I just wanted to put it out there that things aren't always as they appear to be...

I like this metaphor a lot, BP. In my case, some days I feel like I am the sideshow...

I read this as a condemnation of plagiarism and shady publishers haha Nicely done :)

The world is insane and the inmates are running the asylum! Indeed, we have to be the ringmasters of our own lives. Love the metaphor and you carried it through the entire poem so well. Very well written. Lydi**
