Dear Darling

Dear Darling

A Poem by Titilayo Sarah Eguridu
"

A Toast

"

Dear Darling,

This morning, as I slowly floated out of sleep and peeped  at the curtains of the pearly skies…

I am reminded of how blessed I am…

To have a voice as strong as yours as the sound track of my heart.

I remember how  your buttery smooth baritone voice, clothed in patience marched gallantly onto the pothole-riddled road of my life.

With soothing words, you whisked me to the theatre of love and with gentle yet surgical precision your words cut open my engorged decaying heart.

The gentle ministrations of your words drained years of terror, trauma ,betrayals and self doubt that had been laminated into my life.

Your voice slathered it’s healing ointment of kind loving words on my frail heart.

It taught me that love talks and does not require payments to be attentive.

Your laughter untied the nerves in my belly ,and has become an unending source of joy to me.

Sometimes I wonder how a voice so warm, kind and gentle could fight it’s way through the thick fog in my heart.

Your voice walked in and took over!

No tap dancing!!!

It pried my soul from the dungeon of gnashing teeth and has become my favorite love ballad.

The firm yet subtle frequency of your voice has become the highlight of all my daily human interactions.

The soaring thrill of hearing you say “I love you much more” is priceless.

Those words have helped me build dreams that I can touch.

The shame, self loathing and anxiety, are all gone.

I celebrate the grace upon your life.

You will always be the concierge of my heart.

Eternally Yours!

Great imagery here illustrates beautifully the profound effect the addressee has had on the speaker's life. Many people who have experienced difficult times have not experienced such a turnaround. Treasure what you have and remain grateful for it.

"Your voice walked in and took over."
This line really stood out to me.
Wonderfully penned poem about the power of a voice.
Richard Strauss said: "The human voice is the most beautiful instrument of all, but the most difficult to play".
This quote came to mind when reading your lovely poem. But he was taking about singing. But your poem shows that the beauty of a person's voice can be much more simple than that.
Thank you for sharing this write. :)

Wow... this is like a blanket, comforting and it just covers you! We sometimes take for granted how affecting someone's voice alone can be... it's usually when we no longer have the convenience of hearing it. You've given a bouquet of flowers here... well done!
