Solitude

Solitude

A Poem by Titilayo Sarah Eguridu
"

Defiance

"
No mobile phones!!
Do I sound phony???
No Netflix!!!
I don’t need a fix!!!
No Twitter!!
I am not a titter!
No X!
Who needs an X after a broken heart??
No YouTube !
I am not so into tubes!
No TikTok!
I hear the tick-tock of the church pendulum clock!
Guess what???
It sounds cool…for a change!
It’s just me on the white sands,
No keyboard warrior fangs,
No blaring horns,
No unsolicited music playing
The air is clean and crisp
Trees sway to the samba drums played by the winds
Seagulls mewing…
The golden orange splashes of the setting sun…
The waves flirt with the rocks gently
The white pearly colored sands cushion my mat….
I float away embraced by Natures welcome…
Here’s my hand solitude.

Did we just have a conversation before you wrote this?

Everything you said here is what I have been telling so many people these days...we have lost the ability to just have human, face to face contact. Cell phones, tv, A.I. ....social media...
I see couples at restaurants sitting across from each other...both texting...pretty sure not with each other.
When I was in college in the late sixties....we didn't even think of computers....we hand wrote papers...we had discussions in little groups as we tried to solve the world's problems. We were not compartmentalized like now.
I quite love this poem.

Solitude,
The lonely companion that never feels alone.
So contagious to become addictive to a wandering soul.
It speaks louder than voice in language that not all knows,
Whispering into the ears that'll listen and people of its own.

But not all seems to see this light beaming,
Calling their attention to flee what seems fulfilling.
Time keeps drowning in itself as people keep streaming,
and then getting brainwashed by what they are seeing.

Imagine feeling the breeze caressing your skin as the sunset,
Or as the river reminding you of how life is meant to live in calmness,
But noise has taken over the world through internet,
And I see too many people struggling to live the life of themselves.

The world is drowning in the ocean of digital cacophony, and the effect of its tsunami is already sweeping human race off their feet obliviously. I pray we wake up. Depression is everywhere, oppression is like a mist in the air, and anxiety gripping people. Why, people don't seem to take a break to be with themselves again, there image now based on what they see each and every moment on the internet.

It's great reading you again, Titilayo.
I hope this meets you well.

The various modes of electronic communication have been both a blessing and a curse. Some people can't bear to be away from their phones, are almost addicted to them. This offering suggests a cure as it were, an exchange of frantic communication for solitude. I think time alone in nature could provide a healing. Well done.
