Autobiography of a Banyan Tree

Autobiography of a Banyan Tree

A Poem by Balaram Sarkar

I am now a ghost of a Banyan tree.
I was killed when I was ninety three.
Beside me, a beautiful lake was there.
I stood in the heart of Mother Nature.
A bird fell seeds and I was born.
Then I had grown tall and strong.
From the soil, I took saps and water,
Light from sun and air from Nature.
I had seen, many days, good and bad.
Lake, bird, passer, many friends I had.
Lake taught me to stay quiet and calm,
Nightingale soothed me with her song.
Light breeze touched my branches,
I began to dance in much happiness.
I was blessed to have such a life.
God ! I wish I had still been alive!
