Sadness Is

hey gang :D a poem about sadness. it's long and i worked kinda hard on it so dont judge me pls

Sadness is temporary

There's a point where stuff stops being sad

Eventually the message gets diluted

And other stories are reinstituted

And for some reason everyone seems to forget after that

Sadness is replaceable

Life is fleeting, and days are shorter

Wet, sandy thoughts to be stored

But stronger waves drag them from the shore

They destroy and build new memories like brick and mortar

Sadness is lingering

It's been years, and you can't quite remember

But it sticks, does its taunting

Every narrative needs its haunting

A phantom limb that's rotting and can't be dismembered

Sadness is personal

Everyone around you seems unaffected

It doesn't matter to them

They don't share the chains that have you condemned

And when they look happy, it just makes you feel disconnected

Sadness is an ache

The pangs get subtler as time goes on

From gentle nudges to stinging jets

It's kind of nice how it doesn't let you forget

Because who would you be if that bittersweet memory was gone

Sadness is an island

But not one that you can't escape

The life boat is within your reach

But you don't think you want to leave this beach

Everything ahead is some kind of unfamiliar landscape

Sadness is a comfort

Whenever you feel like life is so boring

All of this monotony's a curse

But, back then, everything was so much worse

And suddenly your empty smile doesn't need much enforcing

Sadness is a plague

No matter where you go, you're consumed

Sure, it's constant and easy

It's like there's no use retreating

What use is to run from a monsoon

Sadness is a drug

But it's not just that alarming addiction

It's so painful in the beginning

But with time the effects are gradually thinning

Until its just meaningless words that have lost their infliction

Sadness is paralyzing

Why even bother at the end of the day

When nothing really matters

And all reasons to continue shatter

The pain and resignation are hard to outweigh

Sadness is normalized

Sometimes you think you shouldn't feel like this

But everyone around is sad, too

It's nice to know that it's not only you

Like you're all holding hands inside the abyss

Sadness is you

Sadness is everything

Sadness is fulfilling

Sadness is isolating

Sadness is uniting

Sadness is in the date that sits at the top of your paper

Sadness is in the way your steps fade in a thoughtless rhythm

Sadness is every experience that you thought would be the breaker

Sadness is every poster preaching freedom on the walls of a prison

Sadness is waking up

Sadness is struggling to sleep

Sadness is in your everyday life, an overflowing cup

Sadness is every smile or frown or expression that's cheap

Sadness is the reminder of your mortality

Hovering over you, never quite leaving

Sadness is the way you grin and bear that mentality

Because "a life spent afraid isn't a life worth living"

Sadness is in every blink

Sadness is in every breath

Sadness is always hovering close on the brink

Sadness follows you till death

Sadness is brief as well deep-rooted

Sadness is mental

Sadness is rushing

Sadness is life that's stopped being muted

Sadness is simple as well as complex

Sadness is gentle

Sadness is crushing

Sadness is waiting, not knowing what's next

Author's Note

What is going on with my rhyme scheme :') i had the cadence in mind for this poem but i fear that yall aren't gonna read it that way. oh well. it sounds better when u read it out loud. i had a lot of different things in mind when i wrote it and couldn't decide on what i wanted it to be "about" or whatever, so we're just going broad and saying sadness. bye gang :D hope u liked it
