Poem is interesting. The hero of the poem gives a deal. The hero allows the other person to do whatever he wants as long as he doesn't bring her down. The punishment is getting smacked. The hero says " you will get smacked" because she either experienced it already in the past , and now gives a second chance, or she knows it may happen .
In the poem the hero says what she has to say : " I do my best", that ends her part. now it's time the other person accepts the deal - the relationship treat.
beautifully it ends by giving us the result of dragging the hero down, but also leaving us questioning on the meaning of "dragging me down" - to where?
