The Tale of Them

The Tale of Them

A Poem by Miss Marie Riorden.
"

So this one does have a happy ending, quite a shocker to me .

"

The two who live

In oblivious companionship

Seeing each other every day

Never thinking it could be more than friendship

She smiles at him with bright blue eyes

He returns it back his eyes flashing bright

Neither knowing what could happen

If they could flip this light

He thinks of her frequently

A delicate flower who shouldn’t be hurt

He watches the others use her

And break her heart

She cries the tears that he stops

Telling her not to worry

That everything will be alright

Secretly burning with fury

He wants her to be nothing but happy

Her smile brings him life

She is unaware of how he feels

He is planning to tell her

She comes to him one last time

Her eyes filled the rejected look

She doesn’t know what to do

Now that she’s been broken one more time

He comforts her and holds her tight

Once more saying everything is alright

He knows now is not the time to say it

But his heart screams out for the right

She stares at him in haunted shock

A ghost of a smile appearing on her face

She dries up her tears and pulls away

Confusion melded in her brain

He bites his lip and shuts his eyes

A mistake too big to be forgiven

He knew he took a step too far

And he prepares for her rejection

She notices the down face

A look of utter fright

That is written on this boy’s face

And she wonders why she didn’t know

He doesn’t hear any hurtful reply

He peeks beyond his eyelashes

She is still staring his way

But not at him

She doesn’t know what to think

What to say or what to do

Trapped in complete and utter silence

When he starts to fall to the ground

Her knees grow weak and shaky

He falls on the ground

Sitting there stupefied

No hope or faith being found

She feels her knees give in

And her arms wrap around

Closing her eyes to fight back tears

Embracing him in a hold

He feels her arms around him

Her look of saddened sympathy

While he stares shocked ahead

A smile growing in his heart

She didn’t know what to feel

Or how to play and act

She had forgotten what she had felt

When they’d first met

He waited for her to catch notice

Of his eyes on hers

Like they always did

In their very first days

She opened her eyes and looked at him

His eyes looking straight into hers

She couldn’t help but to smile

And feel safe for a while

The two who were lost

Had now found one another

To live in happiness

Forever and more
