Someday

Someday

A Poem by Berto

I wanted to see you today,
to appease my weakness for your smile.
But I stood enchanted, at the gate,
careful that my toes did not trespass in your garden.

Perhaps I will find you someday,
when you are able to be found
I shall admire you up close;
when the sun shines upon the silken wave in your hair,
as if an auburn pencil had traced a butterfly's wing.

You are all graces in one woman,
with lucid eyes that erase me,
magnetic words that displace me,
and an honest heart that impels me.

Do you not know?
I am astonished by your loveliness.

I would be a fool not to tell you so.
