Numbers, you've made me dance enough!

Numbers, you've made me dance enough!

A Poem by Deepika

I have a strong bonding with you since my birth,

Yet, in most cases you' ve played with my breath!

‘cause you are ever raising when it comes to my age,

And ever ceasing when it comes to my bank balance!

Bills give a slight ache in my rib cage,

Just a digit difference when it comes to the lottery chance!

You stole my childhood in the form of Arithmetic,

In grads, marks was a field that was problematic,

My youth passed keeping count of my crush's girlfriends,

Still accounting the loss of my teeth till my life ends!

The Sudoku has spoiled my sportsman spirit,

Snake and Ladder has given me Roller Coaster threats,

Binary just zeroes and ones, Damn! there lies permutations,

Lost life's chemistry balancing you in the chemical equations!

I liked this whimsical attack on the concept of the abstract idea of numbers and how they rule us from the moment we are measured, fresh out the womb until we are measured one last time for the wooden overcoat. You nailed this wry piece precisely D.
