My friend, when you write melancholy, you write MELANCHOLY. I could feel this, the fear, the unknown, the question and the thump, thump, thump of a worried heart. This was impressive Betty. It is sad that there are people right now, today, at this very moment feeling this, going through this anguish. Sad. Wonderfully written.
Well that should be the new dictionary definition of melancholy, wearing a mask for the others benefit, while trying to keep the same worries hidden from your own countenance.
It is why I enjoy reading the war poets. Their thoughts are brutally honest on the page, while very little is spoken.

Thanks, Lorry for a very thoughtful review!

The angst, worry, concern come clearly through, creative imagery/metaphor define the situation, this brave soldier committed to serve his country and now the call has arrived, both he and his lover are experiencing the pangs of days ahead without each other, and indeed, what does the future beyond have in store, perish the thought?

My love of poetry results from my love of art. As a painter I am able to express myself on a canvas. As a poet my words come from my heart, my moods, sometimes sad, mostly upbeat. I like to use vivid .. more..
