MOODS OF THE SKY

MOODS OF THE SKY

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

watching the changes

"

In splendid solitude I view the sky from my rickety front porch

I sit in my borrowed wheel chair and my family works the farm

so, I am the lucky one who catches all the moods of the sky

my son awakens me at dawn just when the sun has enough sleep

and I can twist my body to see the purple, orange, and bits of yellow glowing, what a sight, it gives me shivers, so my mood is up

Then the sun rises above those hills and the sky is blue with some wispy clouds that look like cotton candy

I must turn my wheelchair a bit to watch those clouds move

and they are fast

I wish I could float on one of them

no, I am stuck in this wobbly wheelchair

but I still have my eyes, and can stare at that blue until they blur

sometimes those clouds get angry, not at me, maybe someone else

that is a gloomy mood, shut my eyes, swing my wheelchair around

Rain scares me

even though the porch is covered, I feel like the roof may fall in

it creaks and moves slightly

when the rain stops, I turn my wheelchair to face an alluring rainbow

which lights up the sky in in a myriad of colors

then it disappears, but I can still see it in my mind’s eye

Darkness is nearly upon me

can feel a cool breeze

sun is tired and slowly sinks behind the hillside

the family should be racing in soon for supper

I cannot cook, but I certainly can eat

will be sure to wait for the moon to shine in my window later

Thank you Julie, much appreciated...
Warmly, B
very descriptive and appealing, aside for the wheelchair and need for one, she sees the beauty and lives it and waits for the next scene to bask in. I love this.

Thanks for sharing tis thoughtful and inspiring poem...
I love the visual and sometimes quite physical imagery of this piece...like someone breaking through their circumstances and appreciating the positive side of life...
I love the last line about waiting for the moon to shine in your window later..

Lets encourage and review each other's work

This poem beautifully captures the speaker’s intimate connection with nature, finding meaning and emotional reflection in the ever-changing sky. Despite physical limitations, the speaker experiences the full spectrum of moods, from the joy of a sunrise to the fear of an approaching storm. The poem’s imagery is vivid and rich, particularly in its portrayal of the sky, using colors and textures like “purple, orange, and bits of yellow glowing” and “wispy clouds that look like cotton candy.” The speaker’s resilience and appreciation for the beauty around them—despite challenges—shines through, making this poem a poignant reflection on finding solace in the simple yet powerful moments of life.

You are welcome dear Betty.
Hellooo Bettyyy!! What a wonderful poem about the natural world, the sky. I like how you showed that one of the abilities gets disabled that another one gets heighten. In this case it's the eyes that are seeing things that maybe others do not see or choose not to. Wonderful poem!!

I sit on my front porch whenever I get the chance. S0metimes to read, other times to just sit and take in the sky and trees. Sounds silly to some but its like a meditation in a way.

Good story, Betty.

Betty, this is a very deep write, yes wires come together with great flow but! What's the meaning read between the lines because ever word has more than what it means, this story is poetic.
Thank you for sharing

i don't mind tolerating moods such as these. the sky is so alive and telling. we are inextricably linked to nature. It is a part of us and us a part of it. you've written of that link in a powerful, touching manner. i think the world would be a much better place of we all spent more time on that porch and looked up more often. thanks for the escape.

My love of poetry results from my love of art. As a painter I am able to express myself on a canvas. As a poet my words come from my heart, my moods, sometimes sad, mostly upbeat. I like to use vivid .. more..
