Middle of the Night

Middle of the Night

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

inspiration

"

T’s 1:00AM and I am cozy under covers

I await the moon to move to my view

soft music from my headphones

my mind gathers visions at this hour

what shall I do with my begging neurons?

they needle me to pen

Express myself!

urge to write notes regarding my notions

I have memory of a dream last eve

at first a secret, then my muse wishes me to share

yet the moon must shroud my room with light and shadows

to allow my writing

my music must be in tune with my inspirations

I launch some scribbles on a note pad

and read them to my muse

she smiles from afar

I yawn three times

my eyes are at half mast

it is now 2:00 AM, my head nods

I awaken with startle and keep my notes close to my chest

thank the moon and close my eyes

You know I love your stories and I haven't had the chance to read them for a while and now I can't find them! While I was looking for it I found this poem and aha it's very important to know why you write before reading the story from the beginning! and it gave me the answers I needed, it's really beautiful and I can imagine you like this... I also loved your photo! Please keep writing like this!
PS: if you can tell me the second book's first poem's name I'd be very happy!
Take care!

I loved this! It felt like a dreamy late-night dance between thought and moonlight. So cozy, creative, and beautifully written like a whispered secret to the stars! ✨

A gentle, dreamy poem that beautifully captures the quiet magic of late-night inspiration. The imagery is soft and intimate, like a conversation between the mind, the moon, and the muse. Lovely work.

I love this poem!!! It gently captures the quiet magic of late-night inspiration, where dreams, moonlight, and music guide the urge to create. The tone is peaceful and reflective, it drew me into a deeply personal moment. There's a beautiful stillness to it, and the imagery feels soft and intimate. This is a wonderfully written and comforting piece!

A beautiful capturing of the quiet magic of late-night inspiration; the gentle pull between exhaustion and creativity, between dreams and the need to express. There’s something intimate and contemplative about the way the moon becomes both a companion and a catalyst for thought, its light shaping the writer’s process like an unseen guide. The rhythm feels organic, mirroring the slow drift toward sleep, the surrender to creativity before finally letting go. It’s a deeply relatable moment for anyone who has found themselves wide-eyed in the dark, scribbling thoughts before they vanish with the dawn. 🕊️

Love this! It speaks to the "moon maiden" in me, as my astrological sign of Cancer refers to me. I'm forever typing out poetry prompts on my phone in the middle of the night. I've found my muse begs for attention most between midnight and 2 in the morning, which I'm happy to oblige! Good to see you, Betty!

This poem makes me reminisce every time I had a spark of poetry or a good few lines right when I'm dozing off to sleep, I had to pick my phone and note the thought and a couple times I prayed the hint of idea stayed by the morning and luckily it did. I love the ambience of this poem, a pretty moon sky and lightheartedness once you wrote your thoughts, beautifully worked the lines there. I count it as such a blessing when poetry calls on us this way, it sure tests us with the oddest hour of inspiration for sure though XD

Sending you warmth, my friend!

You're welcome, my friend
"yet the moon must shroud my room with light and shadows" ~ such a breathtaking line, dear Betty! And I think it must be absolutely wonderful to be able to see the moon from your bedroom. If I did, I would be up writing all night! So I understand why you keep awake and penning amazingly inspired poetry. Reading this poem is absolute bliss.....

P.s: That photo is stunning!
