Middle of the Night

Middle of the Night

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

inspiration

"

T’s 1:00AM and I am cozy under covers

I await the moon to move to my view

soft music from my headphones

my mind gathers visions at this hour

what shall I do with my begging neurons?

they needle me to pen

Express myself!

urge to write notes regarding my notions

I have memory of a dream last eve

at first a secret, then my muse wishes me to share

yet the moon must shroud my room with light and shadows

to allow my writing

my music must be in tune with my inspirations

I launch some scribbles on a note pad

and read them to my muse

she smiles from afar

I yawn three times

my eyes are at half mast

it is now 2:00 AM, my head nods

I awaken with startle and keep my notes close to my chest

thank the moon and close my eyes

You know I love your stories and I haven't had the chance to read them for a while and now I can't find them! While I was looking for it I found this poem and aha it's very important to know why you write before reading the story from the beginning! and it gave me the answers I needed, it's really beautiful and I can imagine you like this... I also loved your photo! Please keep writing like this!
PS: if you can tell me the second book's first poem's name I'd be very happy!
Take care!

B.,I wish I could develop a system as efficient as yours. When I turn in I place my notepad beside my bed, in hopes something will come to me from dreamland, in the way of Robert Louis Stevenson. Unfortunately, my dreams seem to be fugitives from mental hospitals, making no sense at all, and in the first minutes after awakening I feel like a dud resurrection, hoping that coffee will save me. I usually get my inspirations in the daylight hours, when I least expect them.

You are wiser than I am. When I'm in bed and get an inspired idea, whether from a dream or just thinking, I say to myself, "I gotta write this down as soon as I get up in the morning!" You know what happens next. Yeah, I get up and think, "Now what was that great idea I had last night? Maybe I'll remember it later...."

And yes, what a very good impression of Emma joy you do! 😃
Tucked up against the backdrop of moonlit clouds and her propensity never switching off, even when time tells her it's sleep o'clock, as she tries to fit one or fourteen other things in to her day!
Oh, it wasn't an impersonation and you too suffer from brainnotswitchoffitis?
I'm very sorry to hear that and may I offer you my sympathies. I don't suffer the same terrible fate, but rather it's polar opposite, briandontswitchonitis!

Good evening Betty. I was the victim of a sealed adoption and know nothing of my birth parents nor the possibility of siblings. Upon carefully reading your poem three times I felt I had found a sister. You have so accurately described many of my nights, awake in the wee hours, headphones on with carefully chosen favorites from Spotify, taking the seemingly random words and inspired phrases I have collected in my mind over hours or even days, and arranging them to coalesce into a poem I feel I may share. I hope for sleep; if lucky I fall into sleep, head hanging over my writing. Thank you for your beautiful poem that makes me feel less alone in those sleepless hours of the night. MSB
