 WORTHY EFFORT

She notices him straight away

a young angelic face

barely a shadow of a beard

yet she admires his appearance

a square jaw, a straight nose, and curly blonde hair

she cannot decipher his eye color from her stance

She peers as he slowly moves his profile

and sips some brew

she ponders over their age difference

two husbands astern, now she is in pursuit

of a plentiful younger man

an older woman of fifty something

with gray streaks in her auburn hair

she considers herself quite attractive

This would be her first occasion to seek a younger man

she gazes at him for some time while glancing at her watch

eager to meet him, yet in a subtle manner

he rotates his head slightly

but has yet to make note of her appeal

Regrettably, quite enough time passes without his direct glance

she recognizes that he is not responsive

and pays her bill

walks slowly to the exit

hence, he acknowledges her alluring walk

and quickly arises to follows her

“May I open the door for you?”

Dear Betty,

I adore this honest and stunning poem!

An older woman looking at a younger man. Very relatable. Admiring his beauty, again very relalatable. Being a poet at heart, I can really appreciate this. Beauty and physical attractiveness are important to me for romance. I do try to take care of myself as best as I can and expect my partner to do the same.

The other aspect is the longing of the woman and the way the young man seems not to notice her. I think you hit an important fact here. Women grow less visible to men as they age. After a certain age, they mostly become invisible. Even if they retain their youtful appeal, men who know their age mentally keep writing them off. Perhaps, dating strangers is a good option here.

Lol, let me not be a devil now. I just want to say that I really loved this poem. Its going into my favorites folder! :)))

It was a pleasure to read, my friend. You're most welcome!
This one so reminded me of my own lack of social graces (read that as being so dense I couldn't even BUY a clue - from even a clue-dispenser) when I was a "young" man. Naivete` sometimes takes brutal intervention to overcome... but sometimes ...sometimes, we do learn.

Chris! Thank you for your very honest and lovely review!
Warmly, B
Well, Betty….aren’t you the romantic! You certainly seized my attention and I am now torn. Do I want to walk away from this encounter, letting MY imagination write another chapter, or do I want YOU to write a follow up poem? Was it just a moment of courtesy, or does romance ensue?

By the way, did jacob just call you shallow for writing a poem about physical attraction? LOL

No I think it was directed at the poem itself!
Thank you Michael for a thoughtful review!

I guess she finally caught his eye. Nothing like Auburn hair; that always intrigues me.

But then, shallow people are often the ones only attracted by looks.
