This reminded me of that moment when the realization of knowing we will never see this person again. To be in their presence, knowing it will be our last. How do we say goodbye? What words are there left to offer? Before I moved to California, I visited a neighbor who was dying from cancer. I knew with absolution, that I would never see him again. It froze me in my footsteps. He appears to me now, after reading this. As the kind man, as the gentle man, he was. I still cannot remember though, how I was able to walk away. Thank you, Betty.

Many of us will sit at someone's bedside for their final hours, but this situation seems especially heartbreaking. I hope it's true that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Still, we may never get over some losses. Nice writing, Betty.

As you always have and do write, you introduce a strong message as to what can be found AND,'reader please, please reader - share my past, present and perhaps future, with me.' As was intended, your book contains many turns in Lilly's life and each stage is verging on the hypnotic: why, when, where and how is life carrying her. Such a clever plot, such a fine romance.. such a mystery. Kudos et al, Betty.
This chapter ends on a very heartbreaking note, dear Betty. Being the ever optimist, I do hope, he'll recover his memory at some point in the future and return to her, but for now, it seems like a sad and lonely road ahead for her. However, a child could always make the journey a better, more cheerful one.

We seem to have reaching a turning point in the story here. The young lady, whose name is Lilly, is now face to face with her wounded fiancé in his hospital room. The wound has left him with amnesia, so that he cannot recall her or their engagement, which is frustrating to her. As the conversation continues, she knows she will not be able to bear it, so she tearfully takes her leave of him, aware that this is the end for them. If there is more to the story, it will probably show how she comes to terms with the situation. I hope she is successful.

Woah Betty, once again. A brilliant piece. Your writings always hold so much emotions in them and makes the reader feel them too. The feeling and pain of loving someone only for them to not remember your name... it's truly painful. It's not just the name you know... like it just shows the value of little things. You've showed well that how memory can fade, but love and heartache will remain. But what's heartbreaking is the feeling you've described, of how you stayed strong despite the pain and the final goodbye.... it's everything. A beautiful and heartbreaking piece. The imagery carved something sad, a memory we didn't know we needed to keep it with us.
Thanks for the amazing write.

Wow! Did not see that coming. What a journey your protagonists have taken to get here and whata bitter-sweet finale for their journey, apart but intertwined for so long.
But isn't the end?.... cue dramatic music a la Twilight Zone! 😃

My love of poetry results from my love of art. As a painter I am able to express myself on a canvas. As a poet my words come from my heart, my moods, sometimes sad, mostly upbeat. I like to use vivid .. more..
