How To Make Someone LaughA Poem by Betty HermeleestressHOW TO MAKE SOMEONE LAUGH
They sit at the dining table hastily eating their supper no words shared two large stem glasses of cold Chardonnay sit on each side of the table they fail to peer into each other’s eyes she stares at a painting next to him on the opposite wall he attempts to look out the window a gloomy mood shrouds them they have been trying to get pregnant for some time now she is not giving up, although her disposition is unpredictable One night he resolves to lift her spirits he pours two glasses of wine to the rim they sit, as usual, to eat their supper at one moment, he slouches down to gaze through the wine glass at his wife hence, he begins to giggle as he sees her distorted face through the oval glass she offers him an alien look then she slouches down and does the same she breaks a smile then a loud chuckle both become hysterical the mood emerges from gloomy to bright they bend forward to hold hands and laugh until tear droplets stain their faces now they gaze into each other’s eyes perhaps this is a good sign
